“Team Development” – The Mindful Way
Working in stressful, busy environment can take its toll on employees and ultimately on productivity. For any business it makes sense to look after their employees. At the outset of 2014 we made a decision to source new ways of looking after our staff, and therefore looking after our business. Having experienced Mindfulness events previously, I thought this might be an avenue to explore. How grateful am I it was a path we chose. Kathryn O’Halloran from Mindful Way was our selected provider for the course and we were not disappointed. Kathryn is highly skilled, and emanates a calmness and confidence that is most inspiring and somewhat disarming!
The whole team agreed to give the Mindfulness Day a try – some more skeptical than others! But oh how they were converted! The day was perfect from the outset. Set against the beautiful backdrop of South County Dublin, we enjoyed the warmth and serenity of the Orlagh retreat centre. Kathryn greeted staff on arrival, and ensured everyone felt comfortable and relaxed. The pace of the day was excellent, incorporating various Mindfulness practices such as Meditation, Body Scan, Yoga, and Self-care. Over the course of the day we explored how embracing these ways of thinking and being can enhance our lives in many ways- not only in the workplace, but within our own personal day to day endeavours.
The day allowed for discussion, sharing of ideas, reflection and feedback. Oh, and lots of laughs! It was an amazing opportunity for this group of people to be together in the same place, without the usual demands of targets, meetings, problem solving, and deadlines. We had permission to BE – Human Beings as opposed to Human Doings as Kathryn educated us! Staff were given a CD on completion of the day with meditations to continue with if they so choose. Many left with a firm plan to build these practices into their everyday lives – all left feeling highly valued by their Employer.
As the Manager of a diverse team of individuals, the day delivered more I ever thought possible. Bringing people together to experience Mindfulness is such a gift, not to mention a highly cost effective way of valuing your most important resource – your staff.
